Meet the Founder — Patrick Stevens
Patrick’s path runs from the United States Marine Corps to the high ridges and hollows of the Smokies. He built this store with two guiding beliefs: “Accuracy beats hype” and “Take care of people.” If you ever get him talking, ask about the first elk he packed out, the bolt gun he’s re-barreled twice, or which 00 buck prints tightest at 25 yards.
Our Mission
To equip responsible Americans with reliable ammo, guns, and gear, at fair prices, with fast shipping, and rock-solid customer support, while promoting safe handling, lawful ownership, and confident marksmanship.
Our Story
Smoky Mountains Guns & Ammo was founded by Patrick Stevens, an ex-Marine, lifelong shooter, and seasoned backcountry hunter. After years on the range and in the field, Patrick kept running into the same problems: inconsistent inventory, vague product info, and customer service that didn’t understand real-world shooting or hunting needs.
He started this company to fix that. From day one, our promise has been simple:
Stock what shooters actually use.
Tell the truth about performance.
Ship fast and stand behind every order.
What began as a garage operation serving local friends grew into a nationwide store trusted by competitors, hunters, first-time buyers, and range owners. We’ve expanded our catalog beyond ammunition and firearms to include knives, optics, magazines, holsters, reloading supplies (primers, powders, brass, bullets), cleaning kits, and field gear, all curated by people who shoot, hunt, and reload weekly.
Our Objective
Dependable Supply: Keep core calibers and hunting staples in stock (from 9mm and .223/5.56 to .308, 6.5 CM, 12-ga, and seasonal loads).
Clear Guidance: Product pages with plain-spoken fit, function, and use-case notes, so you buy right the first time.
Fast Fulfillment: Streamlined picking, safe packaging, and real-time tracking.
Safety First: Training tips, compliance checks, and age/ID verification where required.
Fair Prices: Everyday value, with periodic bulk deals on high-volume ammo and range gear.
Our Goals
Zero-Drama Checkout: From cart to doorstep (or FFL) without surprises.
Community Support: Sponsor local matches, hunter ed programs, and conservation efforts in the Smokies and beyond.
Education that Matters: Short, useful guides (e.g., ammo selection, .223 vs 5.56, slug vs buck, zeroing optics, storing primers/powders safely).
Responsible Growth: Expand selection while staying true to quality, compliance, and service.
Why Choose Smoky Mountains Guns & Ammo?
Real Shooter Advice: Our team has worn out barrels and boot soles. We’ve patterned shotguns at 15°F dawns and verified dope at 600 yards with mirage dancing. We know what works.
Hunter-Tested Gear: From saddle hunts for wary whitetails to steep elk canyons, we carry what we trust, ammo that groups, knives that hold an edge, optics that track, packs that don’t squeak, powders/primers that stay consistent.
Straight-Talk Product Pages: Clear caliber compatibility, intended use, recoil feel, and maintenance notes, no fluff.
Compliance & Care: Firearms ship to your FFL, ammo ships ground with adult signature where required, and we help you navigate state/local rules.
Reliable Inventory: You’ll see what’s in stock—not a guess. If we list 30-06, 6.5 Creedmoor, 9mm, .45 ACP, .22 LR, .300 BLK, 12-ga, or small rifle primers, it’s because we can actually ship them.
Fair Return Practices: Ammo sales are final for safety, but we’ll fix packing errors fast and help with manufacturer warranties on firearms and gear.
Support that Picks Up: Email, phone, and chat from folks who can speak MOA, MILs, and muzzle velocities without a script.
What We Sell
Ammunition: handgun, rifle, and shotgun, range, hunting, match, and defensive loads.
Firearms: rifles, shotguns, and handguns (transferred via your chosen FFL).
Gear & Accessories: magazines, holsters, slings, lights, optics, mounts, bipods, cases.
Knives & Field Tools: folders, fixed blades, sharpeners, multi-tools, game processing kits.
Reloading Supplies: primers, powders, brass, bullets, presses, dies, scales.
Cleaning & Storage: solvents, lubes, rods, patches, safes, locks, desiccants.
Range Essentials: targets, staplers, eyes/ears, chronographs, bags, mats.
How We Work (From a Shooter & Hunter’s View)
Match-Day Ready: If we wouldn’t bring it to a match or rely on it in the field, we won’t recommend it.
Field-Realistic Testing: We evaluate cold-bore shots, group stability across lots, and performance after real-world carry (dust, rain, and a truck tailgate).
Reloading Respect: We treat primers and powders like the precision components they are, stored right, rotated, and shipped according to hazmat rules.
No-Nonsense Packaging: Ammo comes tight and protected; optics and knives get the extra padding they deserve.
Safety & Responsibility
We support safe, lawful ownership. That means:
Proper storage for firearms and ammo.
Eye/ear protection on every range trip.
Using the correct caliber for your platform.
Following all manufacturer instructions and local laws.
We’re always happy to point you to training resources or answer gear questions.
Our Promise
Whether you’re zeroing a new optic, stocking up on bulk ammo, setting a treestand, or tuning a load at the bench, we’re here to help you do it right—safely, legally, and confidently.
